Way to disable touchpad when mouse is plugged in

I don't use the touchpad often at all, and never when there is a USB mouse.
I find that I am constantly pushing the cursor off when I am typing (I assume by gently touching the touchpad).
My previous laptop had a setting where I could disable teh touchpad entirely when there was a USB mouse hooked up. That was perfect. There isn't any for this ThinkPad.
I know there are sensitivity settings for the touchpad, but I'm not sure which ones work, and where to move them. What settings would be best for me to adjust, and in what direction?
Recently I have simply taken to disabling it, and using that red dot in the middle of the keyboard. I would prefer my old approach, of disabling the touchpad when I have a mouse plugged in, but then enabling it when there was no mouse.
Is there a way to do this?
