Strange Battery Issue

Hi i have a Thinkpad R40

and by battery has around 550 cycles ;-)

2 weeks ago it had a capacity left of 30 Wh (design 57 Wh)
so i could work with it around 3hours

some days ago it happened that the thinpad started to turn off in 30 minutes

the battery gauge goes fast from 100% down to 5% and then the thinkpad turns off ...

i thought somehow my battery got killed :-(

but today i deactivated the shutdown threshold, and it worked about 2hours after the battery gauge showed 5% (and stayed there) so i could work like 2 hours with a blinking battery low symbol

i then tried to recondition the battery, full discharge and full recharge ...

but it doesnt help

is where any software tool out there to help me ?! i think the battery logic needs to be told that there are not only 5 Wh left or so ...

(sorry for my bad english ;-) )

It is obvious that your battery had gone bad! I had the same situation like you with my previous Thinkpad T22 battery. It die off without reasons...but sometimes holds about 2 hours...before it die off suddenly.

If you discharge/recharge your battery, you're adding another cycle somewhat.

:-(

well i tried it out twice again ..

it starts with 100% (after reload)
takes a half hour till 5%

then it stays around 2 or 2 1/2 hours at 5% with blinking lights, but still working :-(

seems some software issue

After 550 cycles, your battery is probably all worn out... I've had my T4x for more than 2 years and I've only got 130 cycles on my battery.

It's probably time to buy a new battery.
