What is the smallest footprint of a TP??

I once saw a X31 - it looked very small (very portable) ...
Can anyone tell me what the smallest ThinkPad is?

I'm going to guess that it is the S30 series.

The 240 series is a close contender, and the smallest US model.

The X40 series has to be the smallest currently in production (it's smaller than an X30 series).

I'm getting an X21, FWIW. Here's size on the different models:

X20 series: Approximately 9" x 11" x 1"
X30 series: 8.8" x 10.7" x ~1"
X40 series (not counting tablet): 8.3" x 10.5" x 0.8-1.06"

That really must be small, cure TPs?

I could use such a thingy, as I´m only using the beast on the road.

I´m administering a WAN (retail chain) with 12 shops and 2 administrative offices, so when on the road I need a PC but have my normal desktop PC at my office.

Myself, I'd just stick with an X series.

The S series, being collectors systems, are not cheap at all, from what I've heard. Besides, they're mobile P3s. Fine for me, but not necessarily what you want.

The 240 series screen resolution is too low for normal work. While the screen's the same size as the S series (10.4"), it's only 800x600, whereas the S series was available with a 1024x768 screen. Also, the best processors are mobile P3s.

FWIW, the IBM PC110 was actually the SMALLEST ThinkPad. However, it's only got a 486SX @ 33MHz, and it was one of those Japan-only models. A Toshiba Libretto U100 is the newest thing like it.

If you want something dirt cheap, the direct predecessor of the X series was the 570 series (the X series took some elements from the 240 series, however).

Of course, another problem with the S30 series is that the keyboard isn't the US keyboard.

Not a problem for someone in the Asia Pacific area, where they were sold, but could pose a problem in the US (can someone who actually USES one over here confirm or deny this?)

a few models of S30 which were manufactured in Taiwan(NOT Japan), was shipped with US keyboard

I thought the smallest TP was the 701C.

Just look at the screen sizes. The PC110 is 4.7", the 701C is 10.4". Guess who's smaller?

The PC110 is 158x113x33mm - 6.2x4.5x1.3 inches. I saw a Japanese model ThinkPad at a computer store in the Silicon Valley about 5-6 years ago that was smaller? or at least thiner.

It had a layout like the Sony Vaio PictureBook PCG-C1VN but much smaller with a Japanese keyboard and Japanese Windows 95. I would have bought it for a collector's item but they wanted too much money.

Hmm... this doesn't sound like a normal model... unless it's only thinner.

If it's only thinner, I think the entire 500 series, the entire 200 series, the entire X series, and the entire S series are all thinner than the PC110

EDIT: Looking at pics of the Sony you mentioned, it's probably an older (read: pre-240) 200 series.

It had a long narrow screen like the Sony. This could have been as far back as 1997.

Hmm... the only IBM portable I can think of that had an irregular screen aspect ratio was the PC Convertible...

Any ideas here? ThinkWiki isn't helping...
