ThinkPad keyboards

#1 Post by karotlopj » Wed Jul 19, 2017 9:28 am

What can cause a keyboard to fail? I have a couple of keyboards which stopped working after being cleaned and I'd like to know what caused them to stop working... Presumably some moisture got inside, but since they are not connected to anything electrical why would they stop working? I don't suppose there is any way to fix them...

My T420 touchpad buttons both became right click buttons after I spilled water on them. Luckily I had a T430 set to swap in. Moisture really messes up these electronics, you have to be very careful when cleaning them. If you can carefully remove the key caps first and wash them separately, do that.

I can't see any damage. I used foam cleaner...

What could be the problem? If water has seeped in what could it have done if it was not connected to anything.

I'm just wondering if there is any way to repair it.

Foam is still some form of liquid.
WRONG cleaner type used!
