time keeps changing in bios
time keeps changing in bios
Hi - I've got a t-60 running xp and linux - everything works fine but the time kept jumping ahead 4 hours - so I went into the bios and set the time to where it should be -that worked for a short time - so then I set the bios time to 4 hours earlier than it should be and after awhile it reset itself to 4 hours ahead of what it should be - no matter what I do it always goes back to 4 hours ahead - I have xp and linux set to the correct time zone. ???

A near-dead CMOS battery comes to mind.
Available on e.g. eBay, check for: lenovo t60 cmos

All TP's use the same CMOS battery. If you have another machine laying around, that is another possibility.

Re: time keeps changing in bios
Windows assumes that the system time is local time, while Linux assumes that system time is GMT, and adds the time zone offset. I'm pretty sure this is the cause.

Re: time keeps changing in bios
You ahould be able to set either Linux or XP to not change the CMOS settings. Linux will likely be tge easier to change but IDK.

Re: time keeps changing in bios
There's a registry key in Windows 7 that forces it to accept system time as UTC. Unfortunately, Windows XP does not support this registry key.
