IBM 'software installer' wont update drivers over the 'Net

Im using the latest version of the ThinkVantage 'Software Installer'. Its that neat program that allows you to quickly and efficiently update your various device drivers etc.

anyways the BEST part of this, is that it will scan your system, look at your hardware, look at your device driver info, and then tell you if there is a newer version. this is great to update stuff like video drivers, wireless drivers etc.

HOWEVER my latest version of this software wont let me detect new updates over the internet. That option is greyed out and for the life of me i have no friggen idea why.

Its really annoying. An exact duplicate identical setup T42p will allow it to go out over the internet to get new updates. Puzzling.

If you are not familiar with this tool you can take a look and grab it here:

If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Mine still works just fine, v3.12.0506. And, btw, most all of us here have been using it for some time now.

Are you running the version selvan mentioned?

Are you saying that the check box for "Retrieve latest information on the internet" is greyed out?

Does your machine have a C:\drivers directory? If it doesn't, try creating one and run the program again.

What is your type and model, according to your bios?

I haven't heard of this problem, so I'm just guessing.

system model is the same as in my signature.

I do have a drivers folder as i have to do driver updates manually now

yes internet option is greyed out

and yes i am running the latest version

Im responsible for a corporate fleet of thinkpads and this bugger (which happens to be my own machine haha) is the only stubborn one.

Im assuming it is having an issue with our hardening process and how we lock down the systems. I'lll have to experiment some more.

I do know that internet access is linked with internet explorer, which we disable in our organization (except for windows update). But I reinstalled and updated to hte latest IE and its not that.

Ahh well. Until my next scheduled format/re-image, ill try it again and see whats up.

The only way I have seen this problem is by editing the TpiSetup.dat file.
Have you made any changes to this file?
