W600, T600?

#1 Post by MikalE » Tue Jan 16, 2018 9:39 am

What's going to happen to Lenovo's naming convention when they run out of 4XX and 5XX numbers in a couple of years?

Is the T490 going to become the new T500 and the T590 going to become the T600?

What do you think Lenovo will do about this confusing (for the T4XX series anyway) naming of their current W/T 4XX and 5XX series when they reach the end of the line? Or, end of the numbers as it were.

I suggested going to 4 digits like T4000, T5000, W5000, X2000, etc. because it would make the most sense ;) (then T4100, T4200, etc.)

They will most likely keep the screen size as a naming mechanism.

They replaced Thinkpad 13 (for 13") with L380 so I doubt X12, T14, and T15 will happen. This would also present the issue of generations being left out of the name.

I predict X20, T40, T50 will happen like P50, P70.

So will the X20 and T40 have IBM keyboards  ? I sure hope so.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Interesting speculation.

I rather like the W4000 and T5000 ideas.
