Windows 7 loses randomly drivers after rebooting

#1 Post by nokiahelp » Tue Jan 30, 2018 12:47 pm

Hello,

I have a ThinkPad x60 Tablet and a big problem : during the drivers installation process, when I restart the laptop sometimes it loses drivers and I need to restart it again. I already had the problem with a Toshiba laptop after installing the wrong chipset driver (AMD on Intel), so for me it's a problem related to the chipset driver. However after installing the chipset driver from the downloads section :

https://thinkpads.com/support/Thinkpad- ... /X60t.html (see for the first result in category : chipset and OS : Win 7)

the problem is always present. I also installed the ahci driver from the same page, and because of the problem again, I upgraded to the latest ahci driver version (STOR_Win7_XP_11.2.0.1006) and the problem is still here.
I don't know what I can do now, never had this problem before with others laptop/PC.

Thanks

NB : OS is Win 7 x86

Windows doesn't lose anything. Either the improper driver is installed, in which case Windows will not load it at next reboot. Or the driver was not installed properly. Also is AHCI mode enabled in BIOS? If not the driver may not load if the mode is set to compatible. Personally I would not install Intel's AMT driver.

Thanks for your reply, but in most cases Windows loads the driver, and sometimes it loses it. But I don't need to reinstall it, only restart the laptop and Windows loads the driver fully.
Using the microsoft driver cause the same problem.

I found something interesting here : http://www.overclock.net/forum/132-wind ... oot-2.html

Apparently it's one of the Update for Windows 7 x64-based Systems from October 2010 that's at issue. My system is 32 bit, but maybe one of the Update for Windows 7 x86-based Systems can be faulty. So I'll try installing a no SP1 Windows 7...

You are probably searching in the wrong direction. A fault in the machine is more likely.

You also did not mention which driver is "lost" when the problem happens.

Right, I forgot to mention which drivers are "lost" : Because I didn't finish the drivers installation, please do not consider devices under "Others Devices". Here's a screenshot of the device manager :

So only (at least according to the device manager) graphics and mouse drivers.

When you right click any of the drivers which are not working, and go to "properties" - what does it say in the "Device status"? There should be an error code and a description of why Windows could not load the driver.

Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)

And I found this : https://superuser.com/questions/1087577 ... rt-code-37

But the User-Mode Driver Framework service is already set to start automatically
