How does "AspectRatio" affect ... being a "laptop" ???

#1 Post by Annecy » Wed Jul 04, 2018 3:51 pm

SO ...
My first ThinkPad ... was a T30 ...
I bought that ... when I was (still) living in Europe ...
After having done PostGrad school ... in Amsterdam ...
and then being hired by ...
& working for a Dutch bank ... in Amsterdam ...

That T30 was (of course :?: ) 4:3 ~
which affects the whole laptop chassis/keyboard ...
design/construction ...
The T30 (as a) laptop was ... "conceptually" imo/maybe ...
more of a "DeskTop"/laptop ...
than a "LapTop"/laptop :SH!:
In any case ...
I used the T30 as more of a DeskTop"/laptop ...
than a "LapTop"/laptop :thumbs-UP:

I'm about to (temporarily/partially) switch
from using a 14.1"ws T61 to ...
a 14.1" 4:3 T60
when computing with a laptop ...
that is sitting/positioned ... on my (actual) "laptop" ...

This 14.1"ws IntelGraphics T61 ... has been
quite usable ... as an actual "laptop" ...
I'm wondering how the more "box-y/squared" 4:3
will feel/compare ...
with the more rectangular 16:10 14.1"ws  :??:

The T60 will (seemingly) be QUITE the featherweight laptop :parrot:

The more rectangular WideScreen "shape" ...
can (sometimes:?:) make packing up a laptop ...
"ToGo" ...
easier :thumbs-UP:
2005: T30 2366-85U (XP)
2015: T43 2686-M7U
2017: T61 14.1"ws
2018: T61p 6457-V9K ¦ T60 2008-4AU & 2613-CTO ¦ T420s 4174-BB4
2017: 2 OtC MS-W7s

(WiP: :help:
~revive T30 XP-install ¦ ~T43 SATA-MOD
~sell T61ws
~Max T61p & T60-2008

I have a "notebook sleeve" ...
that nicely/snugly fits the T61 14.1"ws ...
That "sleeve" doubles ... (exceptionally) well ...
as a "heatsink"
for the "laptop" :flame:

The more rectangular design is easier to carry around. My X280 is a bit more rectangular than My T42 was. Viewing documents and web blogs was easier on the less rectangular designs such as the T42. Viewing movies and such is usually better on the more rectangular designed laptops. Most movies these days are designed for widescreen viewing. Personally though, I prefer the portability over having a bigger screen.

Aspect ratio has no affect what-so-ever on where I use a computer. I occasionally use each of mine on my lap, but more often it's on a table, desk, some other furniture or my chest as I'm lying on my back. But, aspect ratio still has no affect on it.
Collection = T430 - T500 - R400 - X300 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - R61 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P

Aspect Ratio on a laptop doesn't kill me. Its when it is on a desktop. AutoCAD, Programming IDE, Video Editing, etc. is ALL better on my 2x 16:10 monitors with 1200p over 1080p. Ask why not 4:3? Well its simple: 21" 1600x1200 monitors have no less vertical room, but less screen area all put together and they are getting hard to find. Think 21" QXGA, well that is going to be 10K right there.
"Its not what screen ratio you have, it is what you do with it." -me

Now stop complaining and get back to work with your "wrongly configured" box of pixels.

-Thinkpad4by3, or 3:2, or 16:10, or 16:9, or 21:9.....or whatever.

Thus trendy 4K screens etc are best? When will they bring in VA screens cheaply rather than TN?
Modified T470 to look like TP Anniversary Edition; TP 25; E550; T540p; wants a T420 or P1 to see what's good.
