Is this a normal bandwidth speed for centrino?

On my new thinkpad T43 2687DRU, I ran the CNET bandwidth speed test here: http://reviews.cnet.com/Bandwidth_m...4-7254_7-0.html and got a connection speed of around 350 kbps (I ran the test a couple times). I thought this was a bit slow, so I ran it on my 3 year old gateway laptop with a linksys external wireless card and got around an average of 750 kbps. Are these normal speeds? I know bandwidth speeds can vary from minute to minute, but ever since I got this thinkpad, it just seems that it's slower than my old laptop. Are external wireless cards generally faster than centrino?

If so - I have this problem too.

*Sigh*
Apparently may people who use Intel 2915 Pro (And usually with a Linksys router) have a problem of it going down in speed/not connecting/hating certain channels...
By any chance... Are you using a Linksys WRT54G?

Nope, but I think I did fix the problem. IBM Access Connections is managing my wireless network and it was set to high on the powersave options, which means it conserves a lot of power at the expense of performance. After I changed it to low, I retested my speeds and was getting almost 900 kbps, way faster than my gateway. Now my new question is, how much is this going to affect battery life?
