Trackpoint on Thinkpad UltraNav USB Keyboard (SK-8845RC) Doesn't Go Right

#1 Post by loyukfai » Sun Sep 06, 2020 2:41 am

It can go left, up and down, but hardly go right. Any idea?

P.S. The trackpad works flawlessly.

Cheers.

Edit: After dismantling the whole thing, spraying contact cleaner lavishly, and rubbing the area around the trackpoint, scrubbing the little plastic round thing at the bottom of the "pole", the trackpoint has gone totally dead... :BAAAD!:

Edit 2: OK, after a while, perhaps after the contact cleaner has been evaporated, the trackpoint starts working again, but it still doesn't quite like to go right......

My 2 SKs are having trouble off late. Did you find any fixes/ parts/ ways around?

Unfortunately no. AFAIK it's a hardware defect and fixing it would require getting a new part...

Aside from the Trackpoint, everything works just fine so I'll leave it as-is.

Cheers.

How do you recommend cleaning it after this experience?

And how would you recommend - handling this - popping on and off this KEY -

How? SK 8845: Safest tool/ method/ ways/ steps to pop off & transplant the left Shift key from one?

Help! How? SK 8845: Safest tool/ method/ ways/ steps to pop off & transplant the left Shift key from one keyboard to another w/o breaking key cap underside tabs?

Pics/ video & any cautionary notes welcome. (Can’t order/ wait/ receive replacement keys at locale: India)?

Updated Actual Pics:

LEFT SHIFT key - larger horizontally wider keycaps.
