Anyone else tried the Catalyst 5.8s?

Modded them with patje's modder 2.2 i think its currently at, anyhow after its been installed i noticed that everything's slowed down, even bringing up the icons for windows looks slow (as does refreshing the desktop).
HL2 wont even start anymore complaining of a missing something something (yeah i know not helpful) so gave up went back to 5.6's.

Did you mean catalyst 5.7? I just checked the site and there don't seem to be 5.8 drivers yet. Also did you install the CCC (catalyst control center) version? I have had problems with that on my thinkpad so I have switched to using the version with the ATI control center.

yes sorry i meant 5.7's. i tried the 25mb one (without CCC) and that didnt work as im currently using the 25mb 5.6's which i assume is the same sort of thing without the CCC.

I installed 5.7 and got everything going, no problems like you had with the refresh in windows, however my performance in world of warcraft was quite a bit worse that with the 5.6 drivers so I have gone back to those as well. I can't tell if its a problem with the drivers or a problem with patje's mod.

I'm going to have to try patjes modder, or rather i'd like to but it doesn't list the V3200 as being supported.
I've noticed some of this too.

early versions of the catalyst drivers give me 90-100+ fps in HL2. Recent versions of the drivers give me 55-70 fps. Go figure.
