ACCESS IBM via USB FlashDrive ?????

Hey

I've repartitioned my HDD and now the ACCESS IBM button wont work
I dont have a usb floppy drive but have a USB FlashDrive

Was looking around the forum, and found a few other posts regarding the same. Can someone kindly let me know how to get the IBM utility on the USB flashdrive. Everytime I try to install the MBR Utility on the USB FlashDrive, I get the warning :
" An application has attempted to directly access the hard disk, which cannot be supported. This may cause the application to funciton incorrectly. "

If I chose to ignore this warning, I get a diskette error and the application terminates.

Any pointers will be highly appreciated

I am a little unclear as to what you are trying to do. But I have read about using a CD burning program such as Nero to creat a CD that appears to the computer as a diskette.

To repair the Master Boot Record ( MBR ) , I downloaded the utility from the IBM website. Its is one file ( rnrrepair.exe ). When I execute it, it asks for a drive which is the floppy drive
When I direct it to my USB FlashDrive, it returns the above mentioned error.

Any clues ??

To repair the MBR, you need to boot up usually from a CD. You can't repair the MBR while you are booted up into windows. I would suggest you get a friend, relative, or coworker to lend you a Windows XP Pro installation CD, and use the following instructions:

I did a little searching, and I see what you are trying to do. I am not sure this is possible without a floppy drive. It may work if you have a CD burning program that can creat a bootable CD that appears to the computer as a floppy disk. Nero has this feature, but again, I am not sure this would work. You should probably just shell out the money for a USB floppy drive. Alternatively if you have the Recovery Disks, you could back up your hard drive, run the Recovery Disks to restore to factory condition, then restore your backup.

Well, I guess I'll have to do without the ACCESS IBM button.
I bought this thinkpad about a month ago. I wanted to repartition my HDD, so I formatted the HDD, but made recovery disks before that. Now I have installed Windows XP from a different source.

Can you kindly let me know, that if I choose to run my recovery cd's, will I get an option to partition my HDD, as I want 4 partitions.
And how much time should this take

Did you ever find a solution to this? I am trying to do the same thing without recovery CDs with only a CD drive and no floppy drive. And getting the same error message with abort.
