Extending a ThinkPad warranty in the UK

I've searched this forum for advice on extending the warranty of a used ThinkPad in th eUK, but can find only advice for the USA. Can anyone confirm the situation for the UK please?

Whereas the forum postings indicate that a US ThinkPad can be warranty upgraded at any time during the exitsing warranty period, ThinkPad UK (http://www.pc.ibm.com/europe/thinkplus/en/index.html?uk) states:
"ThinkPlus Warranty and Maintenance Options can be ordered within 30 days of the machine purchase date and it is simple to register on-line."
