Is sxga+ really that much better than xga?
more specifically, going from 14.1 xga to 14.1 sxga.
I mean is there really any dif aside from the resolution???

If you want to view side-by-side documents, yes SXGA+ is far superior to XGA. This is all a matter of personal preference... you will need to see an SXGA+ display for yourself to make the determination.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

No. If you run a high resolution LCD (SXGA+ is 1400x1050) at a lower resolution like XGA (1024x768) there will be some distortion because the panel will have to do some interpolation.
If both panels are running at their native resolution, they will both be crisp and vivid. If you run a panel at lower than native resolution, there will be distortion.
Whenever possible, you should always run a panel at its native resolution.

I thought I might not like the SXGA+ resolution because things would be too small, but the beautifully sharp LCD eliminated all those concerns.
