Firewire and SD slot? That isn't a thinkpad anymore...

I always thought it was build quality and great keyboards that made ThinkPads, not the specific ports on the case! :)

If FireWire and SD aren't allowed, some of the recent X series machines aren't ThinkPads ;)

Noo, I mean the LENOVO Z series = Already not thinkpad by destorying edges... Its not a Thinkpad.

Ok... I agree that the rounded edges look terrible. That's the kind of thing I associate with cheap consumer grade junk from Toshiba and HP/Compaq.

However, the pics that were posted are at most just prototypes. I'm hoping that the production Z series are more in line with the traditional ThinkPad look!

I do think it's black. For some reason, the link sent to me by my friend doesn't work, but he told me it is black.

Wide screen ain't that great if they don't increase the resolution and put a decent graphics card in the 14 inch model.

I believe that is a prototype, I think they are all black. I will try to get the link to work.

The Z60T seems to be a completely unneccesary model, it's neither widescreen, nor better than a T series, and probably won't be cheaper either.

The Z60M seems to be pretty nice, with gaming potential, but will likely cost quite a bit more than a T43. I thought the Z series was going to feature an X700? The X600 isn't exactly top quality, and considering the premium people pay for ThinkPads, you'd think they could at least stick in an X700, or have the option for those who want it.

i can't wait for the 14". I have a T41 now that is work issued and I need a personal laptop. I have tried the HP DV1000 and DV4000 and Toshiba Tecra A5. None of them compare to my T41. I hope that the Z60T will have a better video choice than intergrated intel.

Oh ya, I hadn't considered that the Z60T might have a better video option. I hope it can go up to an X600, and the Z60M can go up to an X700. If that is the case, I couldn't be happier.

Why have a 5400rpm hard drive and not the 7200rpm.

All those people complaining about the lack of corners. So many people wack their laptop corners into desktop, doors etc etc and do damage even thought the ThinkPads are tough those crap Dell, Acer etc just smash and crack.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that Lenovo was working on a wide screen model even before the IBM buyout happened. So does anyone know whether the Z is that machine, and therefore will be the first ThinkPad truly designed by Lenovo?

Also, do we know whether Lenovo is maintaining IBM's design engineers

The Thinkpad beta plastic is usually the silver color, I suspect the final shipping version will be black only.

The Z60T (which is also a widescreen HamTard) will be available in both silver titanium, and the traditional black.

x600..? I thought the v3200 in the T43p model was a workstation equivalent to an x600. I know it's probably too early to tell, but when will this be available for sale? The widescreen, brushed steel as an alternative to black (but who would want anything else ) , and firewire port will be nice features.

Yeah, but maybe you'll finally be able to impress those XPS Gen 2 owners

About the corners, in my experience whether the notebook has corners or not doesn't seem to have much to do with the machine's ability to withstand whacks. Many of my colleagues own Toshiba notebooks that have rounded corners, and those rounded corners don't hold up well at all after striking a table.

Don't worry. Silver is the generic color of the pre-production Beta models. I have seen A2x, T2x and T42 Thinkpads in silver.

The final mold was eventually always in black.

Operative term is "was". New company; new rules.

Doesn't matter, I don't want to impress them, I want the classic Thinkpads to stay... Not the generic "Silver" you see on consumer notebooks.

Besides, I don't need to impress them, I simply let them taunt theirselfs after they can't undervolt to gain a few minutes of battery life

so when will more info come out? why isn't Lenovo giving us a press release with more info, so those of us who are undecided on a notebook can make a proper comparison? It's going to be out in just a little over a month, I want to know more!
