What's Different between ...

IBM Update Connector and ThinkPad Software Installer???? Thanks

If I remember correctly, IBM Update Connector gave you a list of updates available, and you had to sort out what you had already and what you didn't have. Also, it didn't always seem to have the latest updates that were on the driver matrix page.
ThinkPad Software Installer compares what you already have on your system with the latest updates available, then it presents you with a list of only the updates that you don't currently have installed. Also, ThinkPad Software Installer is usually able to install the updates that you choose with very little user interaction.
ThinkPad Software Installer works much better than IBM Update Connector ever did.
Anyone else out there, if I missed or misstated something, feel free to chime in.

In addition to GomJabbar's comments, Software installer lets you decide (somewhat) where to put things and keeps the files it downloads to install. Update Connector did not do that very well (it hid stuff).
In addition, Software Installer works (and the newest version works well). Update Connector is 100 percent, pure, unadulterated junk. Crap from one end to the other. Uninstall it and forget it.
Re: Software installer: I found it helpful to do everything except wireless updates and Access Connections in one pass; do wireless in pass two; and Access Connections in pass three. Do a pass four to ensure nothing remains. I have updated *everything* in the rebuild of one Laptop that day and everything worked including wireless.
