Temp network solution

I need a temporary solution. I've ordered a T42 and it will be arriving soon and I need to find a way to give it wireless access for a couple of weeks without buying a wireless router. At the moment, I have a desktop PC with on gigabit ethernet port AND a wireless G PCI card.

Is it possible for me to keep the desktop connected to my cable modem via the ethernet port, while using the the wireless PCI card to serve data to the notebook? If so, how would I go about doing this? Thanks.

The reason I would like to do this is that I need a solution now with he hardware that I have. I'll be moving at the end of the month and I will be able to put both computers on a wireless router at that time.

I *think* it can be done. You would need to set the wireless on the desktop to allow connections, hopefully internal IPs only, and then share some folders. Make sure the two machines are running in the same "workgroup".

I don't know the specifics but I can point you in the right direction. On the PC end you want to bridge the connected ethernet connection with the wireless adapter (windows has built in support for this if you have XP). Then you want to set up an Ad-Hoc wi-fi networking using the wifi card that now has a connection on your desktop, to broadcast the connection over wifi to the laptop. Note: I have never done this myself so I'll likely be of no further help, but this is definately the most common/accepted way of doing what you ask.

you should be able to do so easily;
1. plug in your internet connection into the ethernet port
2. activate your wireless card, set up an ad-hoc peer to peer connection for your wifi, preferably protect it with a key
3. use internet connction sharing to share your ethernet connection over your wifi
4. connect any wifi clients to your ad-hoc wifi netwerk

ive been able to serve up to 5 clients this way at my school for playing a game of red alert 1 8)
