iPod charging off of USB port

For some reason my iPod won't charge off the USB port of my new T43. Is this supposed to be this way?

FYI, this is the case whether its on my docking station (regular, not mini) or straight into the T43

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the docking iPods will not charge off any USB (5v) port.
They need 6-pin firewire (12v) or the power adapter that came with it.
Obviously, the iPod Shuffle does charge off USB.

also minis do charge off the usb port, mine does and i think only a certain gen of normal white ipods onwards will charge off usb.

Only 4th generation ipod onwards can charge using USB port. If your 4 buttons are not within the click-wheel, then it is before 4th generation and you have to stick to firewire.
Oh ya, I think you also can't charge using PCMCIA firewire adapter on the thinkpad, iirc.

My mini charges from the USB.

I believe that Version 3 and 4 iPods (I have a version 4 but use firewire PC card) have to charge from a USB2 and T4x series laptops only have USB1. Correct me if I'm wrong.
