TV on A31p?

#1 Post by Sleep Machine » Wed Aug 17, 2005 11:43 am

Any suggestions on how to use my A31p as a TV? Moving in to temporary lodging for about six months and will have cable. Will have my two L200p flat panel monitors with me. Apparently there are lots of alternatives. Looking for suggestions on the best.

There are various PC Cards that add TV ability to notebooks. I found one using Froogle:

Make sure that whichever card you choose has the proper drivers for your operating system. A couple years back I had an ATI TV Wonder on my desktop that didn't have Windows 2000 drivers. It drove me crazy until ATI finally released a Win2K driver in Summer 2001.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

I'm in college and use my A31p as a TV to save space. I use an SVHS VCR to convert from coaxial cable to s-video. This only works on the A31p because it has s-video in. I use an RCA to 3.5mm audio cable to bring sound in from the VCR to the line in port. To display the TV signal full screen I use a program called "TV Viewer", which can be found at http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Ri ... iewer.html.
The reason I used this was because I was worried about picture quality over USB. I had trouble on an old computer using a USB TV tuner. In addition, I've found having a VCR useful on a few occasions.
