one of these folders takes up 800 mb, the other about 250 mb
these are used by the thinkpad autoupdater, currently managed by lenovo (pkgmgr.exe)

what strategy can be used to 'prune' the folders and files ? if they are deleted, will pkgmgr.exe work ?

if they can be at least partially deleted, what is safe to remove?
I use none of the files or utilities in c:\ibmtools (which take up over 800 mb)

I've actually removed some folders under ibmtools which correspond to programs I have no need for. As for drivers pkgmgr.exe uses this folder to determine what driver versions are currently installed on your TP so I would leave this alone.

I just checked this out and the APPS folder under ibmtools is about a gig. I have no real need for these programs and I have already made a backup, can I simply delete the folder or will this break stuff. It looks like its just installers and that no applications or data are actually installed there.

I'm not entirely sure but I moved the Tools folder to my external drive and nothing exploded, though the software installer clearly checks both folders for current versions of drivers and IBM applications so now it probably can't determine what app versions are installed.

I also noticed that Access IBM will pop up an error message for a file it can't locate when it opens. Seems to work fine otherwise though.

I plan to keep the Tools folder backed up in case I want to reinstall anything.
