looking for suggestions for a 40gb HD that is rated at better than 5400 RPM and is *known* to be running quiet

any fluid cooled thinkpad drives?

one is for a T40, the other for a T42

People have different experiences with drives. I use the Hitachi 60Gb 7200rpm drive and it is very quiet and cool. I think others have had similar experiences while some find it noisy. It has fluid bearings, but it is not fluid cooled. I have never heard of a fluid cooled 2.5 inch laptop hard drive. ... JD Hurst

That is the drive I am using. This size of drive goes into the A22e, T23, T30, T41 and T42 that I know of. I don't think a T40 is different. The only way two drives could appear different (that I know of) is that one could be pictured with a carrier (partial metal shell around the drive) and one could be pictured without. The one you should us in the link is without a carrier.
