It seems to me that ThinkPads simply never lock up or crash unless there is a hardware issue. :D Has that been your experience as well?

Pretty much. I have the very odd lock up, but that occurs because I push my box pretty hard in terms of trying things. Reliability in normal operation is exceedingly high. I can't remember if my desktop ever locked up, and my laptop only once or so in a couple of years.

My T40 ran for two years without a single problem with XP or hardware. My new T43 has locked up and BSODed multiple times in the first week, all software related I think. Not the best start.

I have yet to see the BSOD on my thinkpad of one year.
