Changing settings while connected to the Dock

I just got a minidock for my T42 a couple days ago and would like to have some settings automatically change when I connect/remove the T42 from the dock, like changing from wireless to ethernet and changing resolution. I'd imagine this is possible (actually I've seen it done) but can't find any documentation on how to do it.

Any help would be appreciated.
