changing face plates on T23 CDRW/DVD

#1 Post by Fred Brodeur » Fri Aug 26, 2005 2:03 pm

I have a Thinkpad T23 2647-4MU with the DVD drive (FRU 08K9648, MKE model SR-8176-M).

I bought a Lite-on LSC-24082K

My problem is the new CDRW/DVD drive face plate is not the same. is it possible to swap the guts out so I have the correct face plate?

Do I have to swap the drive tray?
I'd really appreciate some help with this.

People have swapped face plates using some creativity (sometimes glue) but the eject button (and the manual eject hole) have to be in the same place on both drives for it to work. If they don't align, swapping the guts wouldn't fix your problem even if you could do it (in the cases I've seen you can't because the metal shell is intergral to the guts.

Just cut a notch out of the new face plate and live with it. You do know that you have to take the plastic rails off of the old and screw them onto the new one don't you?

Where did you buy the Lite-on and how much was it?

Yes, That was done 10 minutes after I got home. :D
But it still sticks out. It's profile looks more for a T4X
