Which is best program to deal with the registry?

#1 Post by krma-thkpds » Thu Sep 01, 2005 4:02 am

I'm looking for a program to deal with some registry problems. I prefer any freeware, but if there is much of a difference in performance to those, one must pay fore, that too will be 0.k. Any recommendations?

I use RegSupreme, which seems to clean out a lot of innocuous stuff. I think it's about US$13: www.macecraft.com. Can't recall why I bought this particular one, though, but I do remember researching registry cleaning programmes.

Downloaded trial of Registry Mechanic on other machine and in deep registry scan found 334 bad registry keys. Started wondering what is this compared to RegScrub so I downloaded that one too. After searchin the same registry I was quite a bit dissapointed with RegScrub. It only found 28 bad registry keys. I am now considering buying one of proffesional registry cleaners...

If none of these apps tell you to, always, ALWAYS make a backup (export) of your entire registry before making edits. You'd be surprised how easy it is to muck up a system just by making a few "trivial" registry tweaks.

I use Registry First Aid, from Rose City Sftware, with good success. Not free, but the cost is modest and it prompts you for backups before committing any changes.

Cheers,

I use Registry First Aid as well and I think it is very good. I run it about once a month or after a pile of upgrades. ... JD Hurst

You may want to download the entire System Mechanic 6, trial version and check it out. It is free for 30 days, even the Pro version.

Always follow System Mechanic advice to backup the registry first. For some off reason, this is not advertised, not even on the packages but I found inside two PNY notebook memory module packages a coupon for a free copy of System Mechanic 5. When I followed the instructions, I was given a chance to buy System Mechanic 6 instead for $20, a real deal, since it costs $69 download version.

In two weeks, I had a registered copy of Sys Mech 6 on CD.

It us easy to throw out the coupon as the offer is not advertised. The offer is between two pieces of paper PNY includes in the package.
