Hi. :)
I have a T42.
It is equipped with a 802.11b WiFi card.
I was thinking about a A/B/G card..
I have the choice between an IBM branded Intel card, or just an ordinary Intel card.
The shop where i bought the laptop was'nt sure wether it would work or not.

Would the non branded card work?

The Thinkpad BIOS only allows you to use an IBM branded card. But there's a workaround for that.

I got this info from AnandTech so I don't guarantee the result. Nor have I tried it myself. So please don't hold anything against me if it doesn't work or anything gets damaged.

"Download this simple program http://www.congenio.de/infos/no1802.com and run it while booted in MS-DOS (or Win98 DOS). It will remove the BIOS lock that prevents you from booting with "unauthorized" card. All the usual disclaimers apply, of course."

First make sure your thinkpad will support the card at all. My T41 for instance did not work with the Intel 2200b/g.
Yes it was generic, but I applied the famous no-1802 hack; The BIOS would let th card work - however, the laptop would boot straight into BSOD. i gave up and bought the IBM a/b/g
