I'm returning my thinkpad.

I decided it wasn't worth it. I am not satisfied with my T43 so I'm going to return it and get a Sony S460.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone knows anything about returning a thinkpad? I doubt it because you all seem to love your thinkpads so much. Wish I was in the same boat, but the screen just doesn't do it for me.
I'm looking for a direct number to call to get return information. As I understand, I need to get a return authorization form and send that back with my notebook. Does anyone have any advice?
Much appreciated. Thanks

which kind of screen do you have? have you enabled 32 bit color and adjusted the cleartype settings? (Google cleartype and you'll see the link)
I've been using a 15" SXGA+ T42 for the past few months which I've been happy with, but I just received a 14.1" SXGA+ T43 this morning and love it! The size is perfect and the screen is superb, so I'll be putting my T42 on eBay.
for what it's worth, I owned a Sony FS550 for several months and had lots of trouble. the LCD made a buzzing sound and the screen latches kept breaking. Sony support is terrible (check pcmag for their annual survey) and the repairs each took a full 7 days, not to mention the 30-40 minutes you'll wait on hold for a support engineer.
I desperately wanted to get away from the boring design of the ThinkPad, but after trying nearly every brand I'm back to Big Blue and very happy.
the only other machine that I really liked was the Powerbook 15" - the keyboard is great and the display is decent, but there were too many downsides: the bottom got extremely hot, WiFi reception was terrible, fonts looked blurry (blame that on OS X), and I really missed the trackpoint eraserhead and 2nd & 3rd mouse buttons.
anyway, good luck with your Sony - I would highly recommend getting one with a 30-day return policy and zero restoking fee. I have a feeling you'll be back for another ThinkPad.

Hello,
Can you give us more details as to "why"? I am well aware that thinkpads are not "the best" laptops, but I've found them to be great. They have pros and cons just like anything.
Just wondering what changed your mind,

Basically just call tech support and tell them your not happy, if it is within the thirty day period they will email you return authorization. I was not happy with my first T42 and they had no problem taking it back, however, this was this time last year prior to the Lenovo thing, good luck with the Sony, hope it works out. I had a toshiba satellite for about a year and really liked it. It was nice but just did not have that cool look of the thinkpad, and it was quite a bit heavier.

He said the screen sucks. I tend to agree. The XGA panels on the 14" ThinkPad T series suck compared to the FlexView display and brighter displays on Dell Latitudes.
I'm not a fan of glossy displays though. Those things have awful glare.

Yeah, thanks for clearing that up. The screen on my T43 14" was HORRIBLE! It would actually give me a headache trying to watch a DVD.
The screen was much brighter at the bottom and when you tried to compensate for that by changing the angle of the screen, the top would get too dark and you wouldn't be able to see anything.
I guess the best way to describe it is if you look at the screen from the left or right while watching a DVD with dark colors, you get a "negative" effect - where blacks appear almost white.
Anyway, I checked the sony at Best Buy and the screen is wonderful. Sure it does have other issues that the T43 did not, but when it comes down to it, the most important thing is the screen.
The sony is more $, has a GeForce Go 6200 (I like ATI better), less processor speed, 2x256 memory (that really sucks), and does not have a trackball. But then again, it is smaller and lighter and has a 5400 rpm SATA hard disk. Not to mention the superior screen.
As I said elsewhere, the T43 would have been WONDERFUL for business use, but I need something that can also do multimedia, games, etc.

I also wanted to update you all and comment about the return procedure.
My only complaint was that I had to hold for about 45 minutes to speak to someone. When I did get connected, it took about 5 minutes for him to email me an RMA and address to ship back the notebook. I shipped it back the same day and it cost $27 with UPS. This is the only charge that I will be responsible for, the rest will be fully refunded.
I am very pleased with the customer service, they just need to staff a few more people
