alternatives to Presentation Director?

I'm kinda fed up with IBM's Presentation Director (PD) for toggling between my T43's LCD and an external monitor via port replicator/DVI and wondered if anyone has any other suggestions for software to do this.

My main gripes with PD is that toggling has to be done manually all the time (though that's more related to the fact the replicator is not a proper dock). But tonight I discovered that disabling the screen savers etc. through PD when using an external monitor also changes the computer's power scheme, changing it to "Timers Off (presentation)", which also messes up other power settings. It is also a scheme that cannot be edited. So every time I dock and undock I not only have to toggle the dsply settings but also the power settings, which is a pain.

Are there any alternatives to PD that will get around these issues, detect when an external monitor is connected, and also ideally apply different color profiles depending on which disply is being used ??
