Installing a Logitech KeyBoard/Mouse

I have a T43 and a docking port. I attached a Logitech cordless keyboard with cordless MX700 mouse to the USB connection on my external monitor which is connected to the docking port. The cordless keyboard/mouse works fine when docked and when undocked I use the touchpad and/or joystick on the thinkpad itself, all as desired.

However I can't use the special keys on the Logitech devices unless I install the drivers. (It came with iTouch 2.2 and Logitech control center 1.1.1). Do I just install this CD normally? The reason I ask, is that I am concerned that it might take over control and I won't be able to access the special features of the touchpad when undocked. Is this concern real, and if so how does one avoid the problem?

I'm using a Logitech Elite keyboard and Marble Mouse with iTouch 2.2 and MouseWare and all the special TP keys function fine when I'm not docked. I have noticed some odd stuff happen when I undock and dock without rebooting (sometimes the special keys on the Logitech keyboard stop working), but this is nothing a reboot can't fix - or sometimes even just locking and unlocking Windows.

That's a good question... I use a five-button wireless MS mouse and did not install any drivers for it and all five buttons work flawlessly. Under Device Manager, however, there is no sign of the mouse, just the touchpad and touchstick devices.

If your logitech mouse shows up under the Device Manager then I would simply update whatever drivers it's using from the CD. Otherwise, set a restore point in Windows, install the bare minimum of the Logitech drivers from the CD and see what happens. At worst you can revert your computer back to that restore point and undo everything.
