On a T42 notebook with DDR RAM, do you get better performance if both slots are the same size? (2x512mb)? I was ordering a thinkpad with the min of 256mb, then I was going to add 1-gig chip. But I wanted to know if there would be better performance with 2-512mb chips.

I do not believe that system supports dual-channel mode, so no difference.

Even if it did I don't think the difference would be noticable becasuse of the FSB speed in question.

The answer is yes!

You'll enjoy the advantage of big ram!

Suppose you use an application which is a big ram consumer, it'll employ your HDD as virtual mem if it's not satisfied. And you know the difference between HDD & ram speed... :P

The answer is no. Having both sticks the same size will NOT improve performance of the memory.
