OKay So i assuming the embedded security chip allows me to encrypt files. I got a note from Acess IBM message center tellingme to download the software to activate chip. It just brings me to the Thinkvantage page that shows all the security features like fingerprint reader etc. How can I activate it and what is the embeddes security chip exactly?

If you want to activate the Security Chip, you need to download and install the ThinkVantage Client Security Solution software. If you have a Fingerprint Reader, you need to download and install that software too.
You can get the latest version of ThinkVantage Client Security Solution software and Fingerprint Reader software
HERE.
I strongly suggest you read the Readme file for the Client Security Solution software before you install it. I tried the previous version for about a week, then uninstalled it (note: I do not have the Fingerprint Reader). I did not find the software very intuitive, and in the end, I got nervious that I might hose my system somewhere down the road. I do not store any passwords on my laptop anyway, and do not have sensitive data stored there, so I felt the greater risk to my ThinkPad was the Security Chip and it's software, rather than someone reading my files.
BTW, if you search some on this forum, you will see several posts where the user encrypted his data and later could not retrieve it.
