I want to restore my hard drive to factory setting and I just cannot. I enter into the R&R and choose the options and when the system is starting the recovery the program reports a failure and my drive cannot be restored.
Suggestions?

Have you already tried to restore it from predesktop area? I did it few times and never had any problems.

You can try to upgrade it by installing the RNR 3.0. I did the upgrade a few weeks ago and it worked flawlessly. Overinstallation. Burn whatever data you need to CD or DVD or external drive and DL RNR 3.0. It also upgrades the predesktop area.

I did it,and then uninstalled it because I don't like that R&R3 - it is really annoying in the windows OS

Have you made recovery discs before the failure? If you have them you can always boot from the first recovery CD and do pretty much the same as if the predesktop area does.

While I not too sure this will help, you can try booting from the Rescue Media (not to be confused with the Recovery Disc set) and restoring. This will still use your pre-desktop area however.
You can use the Recovery Disc set. If you don't have the set, you can burn one set. If this is not an option for you, then you can order this set from Lenovo for appoximately $50 US.

I upgraded to R&R3 and I have problems again.
I try to get the predesktop area but I can't--it asks me to remove any media- but there is not any media...
I tried with the recovery disks, it fails again.
I can't believe it.
I will try with the rescue media later. This is my last chance. If it doesn't work I will format the entire hard disk including this bloody IBM "secure" partition

One question. When you enter the BIOS (by pressing F1 at the beginning of the boot sequence), what setting do you have for the Pre-Desktop Area under Security. Is it set to Normal, Secure, or Disabled?

Normal.
I tried with the Rescue media-- zero points.
