Security Chip issue

#1 Post by krma-thkpds » Mon Oct 03, 2005 3:02 am

I just installed the latest version of TPM onto my computer and when I rebooted I got message from Clint Security Solution, that the Embedded Security Chip is disabled asking me if I want to re enable it. I chose 'yes'. This window closes and then Windows message window opens telling me that the chip is disabled and I have to enable it in BIOS. However, if I check Thinkpad configuration and click system info, under Security Chip the status is enabled. That is funny, isn't it? Anyone experienced this?

PS.: I am using RnR 3.0.

I don't even have CSS installed. Just RnR 3.0, but I chose not to install the CSS.

When you install RnR 3.0, it installs the ATMEL driver for the security chip - even if you choose not to install the Client Security Software.

Apparently this is for the new security features of RnR 3.0. I have not fully explored all these features, but apparently you can password protect the backups made, and you can create a secure area (partition) for storing your backups. My guess is that the security chip stores the password or passphrase information for these features.

Prior to installing RnR 3.0 or the Client Security Software, the ATMEL driver for the security chip is not installed.

I encountered a similar problem when install Rescue and Recovery 3.0 and Client Security Solution 6.0. After reading the readme file that came with the software, I found the following link:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... VAN-RNRINS

It says Rescue and Recovery v3.0 with Client Security Solution 6.0 requires Fingerprint Software v4.6 if you would like to use fingerprint-enabled features.

Then i followed their steps, and solved their problem.

It's weird that swinstaller didn't bring me the Fingerprint Software v4.6, and I have to find it myself. :?
