Sorry if this has been discussed before.
Whenever I shut down my TP, windows exits a bunch of programs then gets stuck. To get it to shut down the rest of the way I just have to go to the start menu and hit shut down again and everything else exits fine. This is a tad annoying. Anyone know what might be going on?

Not sure personally, but one way to find out what could be holding it up is checking the event viewer. Right click My Computer and select Manage. You'll see it listed and it gives three options: application, security, system. Check all three and see if there are any errors. Might give some clues.

Usually shutdown issues are logged in the file userenv.log. Look for this file at C:\WINDOWS\Debug\UserMode\userenv.log. You can view this file with Notepad.
Microsoft has a service utility that you can download called UPHClean. This utility helps log-off and shut-down issues.
See this link.
I have had shutdown problems in the past after doing a Windows Update. If you have done a Windows Update recently, or installed any new software, drivers or updates, these would be suspect. You can try uninstalling these latest entries and see if that doesn't fix your problem. I found when I uninstalled a certain Windows security update, that fixed my problem (this was a couple of years ago).
