WBEM (Web-Based Enterprise Management) on the IBM XP image

My version of SpyBot S&D has been flagging log files in the system32\wbem\logs folder for several months. This is on IBM's supplied XP image on a T41 (manufactured in Spring '04).

Finally did a bit of searching on what this all is, and found out it is called Windows Management Instrumentation, specifically a web based enterprise management feature for various devices and hardward on a system, I think. Surprisingly, the SpyBot support forums have virtually no mention of this, and I can see why SpyBot would flag the log files as spyware, because there are loads of entries in the plain-text log files of when things happen on my system.

Anyway, there's a big disconnect for me between what I read WBEM is intended to be used for, and why IBM would default enable it on a home/pesonal use laptop for a single individual. Any insights on what this WBEM does for me, and/or the implications of disabling it are appreciated.
