DVD/CD Drive compatibility chart?

#1 Post by m1ch431_g » Sat Oct 08, 2005 4:21 pm

I recently purchased a thinkpad 240. (2609-21u I believe)
I would like to install a DVD drive but cannot find any resources containing drive compatibility options for me. thanks!

If you check the twbook for your model:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... twbook.pdf

You will see that the 240 (2609-21U) can use DVD-ROM (FRU 05K8890), under the options section on the Thinkpad 240 page.

:) Great. Thanks. I made many unsuccessful searches for this on IBM.
One more thing. That drive is compatible with the 600 series laptops. Can I use any drive that is compatible with the 600 series? (I have found far better drives for less for a 600 series)

No. The 600 will accept some internal drives. Your 240 won't. =)

Assuming it's an external / PCMCIA drive, it will probably work. I don't recall if your 240 supports cardbus or not. . .
