Thinkpad ECDT (or EDCT) ACPI, Linux & Windows

I have a very recently acquired Thinkpad A31 running Windows 2000.
In the ThinkPad R, A and G Series forum, I have posted a message "Thinkpad ECDT (or EDCT) ACPI, Linux & Win2k."
In that message, I ask for information about the error message "ACPI: Could not use ECDT" (which doesn't appear to do any damage). That error message arises when booting from Apricorn's EzGigII imaging software CD. (EzGIGII is based on Linux, and appears to be a simpler version of Acronis.) The error message may arise because I have just now finished partitioning and NTFSing the A31, and have not yet looked for BIOS updates.
On reflection, users of other Thinkpad models and users of Windows 9x or XP may have useful comments about that error message.
And my "Thinkpad ECDT (or EDCT) ACPI, Linux & Win2k" message may (or may not!) have information or links that could interest or possibly even be useful to owners of other Thinkpad models, or Windows OS.
So I am posting this "cross reference" message here.
