Problem with volume keys on Thinkpad R31

#1 Post by nvvnravi » Thu Oct 13, 2005 7:40 pm

I am having R31 PIII 1.1MHz 750 RAM 30G HDD.OS is W2K Pro.
My Volume keys are not working.I mean i am when i press volume keys on keyboard neither do i see the graphical display nor the red cross mark goes away on system tray. but when i play then it seems that i can make the volume on and off but cannot increase or decrease.
also if i use thinkpad buttons then the system tray volume becomes useless i.e it no longer works.
but the other way works i.e if i use system tray to control the volume i can mute it using thinkpad button.
This piculiar problem i have not seen and also i was not able to find any solution to this.
i think soem how the hardware of thinkpad keys is not able to communicate to the W2K OS volume or soemthing....

Previously it was working . what is did was i downloaded the latest updates of both W2K from Microsoft site and also latest updates of IBM thinkpad R31.I downloaded all except BIOS because i had previous problem with the latest BIOS update on this thinkpad.
Then my laptop was under warranty so i was able to send it to IBM they rolled back the ver of BIOS.
Now my laptop is not under warranty . I found this site while browsing for my problems.
Hope some one can help.

Atlast i got this problem resolved. what i did was i installed the latest "software installer" and wheni ran that it told me to install some hot-key software which was mandatory to install (the others were optional , so i did not install them).

Hope this helps to some one.
