what series do i have?

#1 Post by biggied » Mon Oct 17, 2005 7:21 am

I have an IBM Thinkpad that I am fixing for a friend. I reinstalled XP everything was working fine... until I restarted and now there is a proprietary setting in the bios to look for some boot record or image that no longer exists.. at least that's what I think it's doing.

I was told I could flash the bios and it would remedy this but I'm having a hard time determining what type of IBM Thinkpad I have. I thought that might be important when I'm messing with the bios.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Look on the bottom of the ThinkPad for a Type number. It should be a four digit number, hypen, then a three digit letter/number. Example 2645-3AU. When you find this number, enter it in Google and you should find out which model of ThinkPad you have.

If you don't find the Type number on the bottom, look in System Information under: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. You should also see it there.

Another thing - if it's relatively new (four years old or newer), look at the keyboard, near the power button, or look at the bottom of the LCD bezel, near the lights. That should tell you which model it is.
