Wireless Connection Status (ConnectUtilities\QCWLICON)

Just recently I noticed an issue with my wireless connection application, for some odd reason the signal strength does not display. These are 2 of the 12 AP's within our neighborhood. On average I will receive between 40-78%, but since my new installation, signal strenght does not display. I've tried uninstalling and installing the application wth no luck.

Any suggestion's before I try and remove the application again?

Try this. Right click on your wireless adapter in Network Connections, choose Properties, then the Wireless Networks tab, and then check to see that the box labeled "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is unchecked. You could try having the box checked as well.

Another thing you could check. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, and check to see if Wireless Zero Configuration service is set to Automatic, Manual, or Disabled. Also check to see if the service is Started or not. If the service is Started, try your connection with it stopped.

Unfortunately, i've done that.

I installed the software again and still no luck with the signal displaying. I've removed the drivers and physically removed the card itself and reinstalled the drivers, but still does not display signal levels.

Perhaps someone with experience on this issue can answer, but I would tend to think it could be a hardware issue. The only way I know of to test this would be to try a different card, or try your card in another ThinkPad.

Strange, but a good laugh, when in the world did I say anything about the card not functioning?

Just because the software does not display signal levels does not mean it's an hardware issue.

Well you can still drive your car when a gauge on the dash no longer works.........

I wasn't saying that your card wasn't working at all, but rather suggesting that it may not be sending the information to the software regarding signal strength. Perhaps one wire or one chip on the card is responsible for this. It could even be a fault with the card slot or the motherboard.

While I said this could be a hardware issue, that doesn't mean that it isn't software instead. I was just giving my opinion - it may be wrong.
