Question about Hitachi Travelstar hard drive

#1 Post by Deckard » Thu Oct 20, 2005 11:04 am

I'm planning to replace the hard drive on my X31 with a 60GB 7200rpm Hitachi Travelstar.

During my searches, I came across to 2 different nomenclatures as below:

HTS721060G9AT00

HTS726060

The first one is identical with the model designation on the Hitachi Storage website. However, I've seen the second one on many online stores as well and the technical specs are identical.

Does anyone know if these 2 hard drives are the same?

Cheers

HTS726060 is the older 60gb 7200 HDD aka 7K60
HTS721060G9AT00 is the newest 2nd generation 60gb 7200 HDD aka 7K100

If you buy a hard disk not through IBM does the airbag sensor still work? Is it a device that is on the hdd itself?

The 'airbag', or Active Protection System is actually an accelerometer on the motherboard which parks the hard drive momentarily if it senses a shock. It should work fine regardless of the hard drive in there.

They review the 100 GB model, which is much faster than the 60 GB version. So that review can't really to used to draw conclusions on the 60 GB model.
