Hi all.
Just a quick one before the winter comes...
Does the standard Thinkpad AC Adapter (P/N - 08K8202) contains some sort of protection against lightning bolts, unstable voltage etc.?
Thanks, Adam

NO, adapter offers no protection against anything. Any surge or lightning hit will be transmitted right to thinkpad unless you have a surge protector, or better yet a UPS which will smooth out line voltage and protect against power outages and lightning. A surge protector will protect against line voltage surges (but not brownouts, ie insufficient voltage) and may or may not work with lightning.

Another question after all.
Considering the fact my laptop is connected to the world in both AC and RJ-45 connections, should i also protect my RJ-45 input for the same reasons i protect my AC input?

It wouldn't hurt to protect the RJ-45 line as well.
I had a 600E laptop hooked up to my mother-in-law's phone line, out in the country (old phone wires), when a suddem storm came through. Unfortunately, it fried my modem.

Fortunately, it was easy to replace with another that I had.

But most people don't have spare parts lying around...
