Software Installer: Remove older "available" versi

This is a purely aesthetic question, but I'd be grateful for any help. On my new T42, I used the System Update utility before deciding that I prefer the Software Installer program. As a result, probably, the Software Installer shows that I have a number of "available versions" with lower version numbers than the "installed versions," and I'd like to clear out the obsolete "available" ones.
Does anyone know a convenient way to match the obsolete "available" versions with specific folders on disk? Thanks for any help.
EDIT: Figured it out. Search for the version number string in .XML files on drive C:
