Wireless security bypass

I had repeated problems with connections dropping, so I did the following:

1. Disable all wireless security
2. Disable SSID broadcast
3. Set up MAC-filtering to accept only my computer

I'm not guarding nuclear secrets here. Is this a wise alternative? I would think MAC-filtering would be the strongest protection.

You have no security under this scenario from anyone who has a decent sniffer. Most people don't have such tools or know how to use them, so don't panic immediately. On the other hand, WEP or WPA should not be causing your connection to drop. Your ThinkPad should have a decent wireless NIC, so with a decent router, you should have a good connection. You can really only secure your wireless with WPA - anything less is asking for trouble. ... JD Hurst
