T23 Function Keys not working
T23 Function Keys not working
I bought a used T23 with no original software. Having loaded Win XP plus power management, hot key features, and config manager downloads from Lenovo site I now have a mostly functional T23.
ThnikPad and the volume keys work. Fn + Home or End or PgUp keys work OK however Fn + F3, F4 or F12 have no effect ( on Screen Blank, Standby or Hibernation respectively). The F3 say "Preparing to turn off monitor" but doesn't do anything more.
I've enabled Hibernation in the Battery Maximiser Wizard which shows a segment of disk drive to be used for hibernation files but the Battery Summary says that Hibernation is still not enabled.
What am I missing?

You probably need to download the "Software Installer" from IBM and it will keep you updated on IBM apps. One of them will be the Thinkpad power management software which will enable those buttons.

Thanks for the tip. I've followed the advice and got a number of automatic downloads downloaded and installed.
F3 (Monitor turn off) and F12 (hibernation) now working OK but F4 (standby mode) still not resonding. Could be a dodgy key I suppose but it is a relatively new keyboard (US spec).

Check Control Panel -->Performance and Maintenance -->Power Options-->Advanced Tab to make sure that, under "Power Buttons"-->"When I press the sleep button on my computer" "Standby" is selected in the drop down box. If the selection is "Do Nothing" Fn-F4 will not put the machine into standby.
I used to be an anarchist but I quit because there were too many rules
F4 working
Thanks - now have a full set F3, F4, F7 and F12 working.
