Access Connections 4.0

Beware Access Connections 4.0!

I installed on my T430 2668-G2U and found it is unaware of the wireless radio being on when it is on. It refuses to turn the radio on either by changing to a wireless profile or using Fn-F5.

Oddly this happened after a few days of apparent correct operation of 4.0. At this point I can use wireless only by uninstalling AC 4.0

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Before you say Beware, do read the instructions. Access Connections 4 is quite different from prior versions and has some anomolies I am not anamoured with. Nonetheless, it *does* work and work reliably. What the instructions say is: Here is a list of cards and the newest drivers required. Have you done that? ... JD Hurst

Still Beware

Sorry, but I read the instructions for AC 4.0 saw no expalnation for the behavior which shows the wireless radio being off - and unable to be turned on - when in fact it is already on (per the light on the TP console). Wireless works fine when AC is uninstalled.

If you know a specfic reason why this might happen, please enlighten me.

I have found with Access Connections that I have had to run all the main profiles once or twice before the automation was truly reliable. But if the raido is off (as is such on a wired network because the AC profile turns it off), then I have always been able to turn it on (including with V4.0). So in this case, consider the following approach (poorly documented in the depths of AC instructions in prior versions):

Uninstall AC including profiles (sorry 'bout that).
Restart
Uninstall the Wireless NIC.
Do not restart.
Install the newest Wireless NIC driver.
Restart.
Install AC 4.0.
Restart.

V4.0 does not included any wireless drivers, whereas some earlier versions did.

AC 4.0 seems to missing the enable bluetooth on system start feature. Or am I missing something?

AC 4.0 seems to cause high CPU usage on A31p

I installed AC 4.0 over AC 3.81 and rebooted. CPU usage stayed at near 100% after reboot. In addition, I received a lot of interference on my 2.4 Ghz phone that was not present before. I uninstalled AC 4.0 and reinstalled AC 3.81 and things appear to work correctly, including my phone. Beware.

I installed AC 4.0 earlier this week but haven't had any problems yet (knock on wood). I installed the version without the wireless drivers.

I have no problems with my own installation. I have installed it on a couple of client machines and had one difficulty. I thought I had uninstalled the prior version but had not and Access Connections worked but would not show up in the system tray. I uninstalled, reinstalled and all was well. So no disconnections, no high CPU usage, no outage after a week or so. I am gradually getting used to the new version. ... JD Hurst

I've been using AC 4.0 for the last few days, and I am well pleased with it. I am not sure if it's AC 4.0 or my wireless driver (for the INTEL 2200BG adapter), but I no longer have a problem with my connection when I come out of Standby. The connection seems fast as well (well at least as fast as my wired DSL connection).

i've also been using it for the past few days and have had no problems (knock on wood). I only switch between two networks (wireless at home, ethernet @ work) so I don't use the interface all that much.

I installed directly over top of 3.81.

Works for me. I find that there are some new options to look at ... one being "enable automatic wireless radio control" or some such. With that disabled, it would leave the Wifi card on when using Ethernet, or not turn it on when searching for a profile to apply. I left it enabled.

Original poster: I think the suggestion was to review the README for Wifi card supported and Wifi driver version (4.20?). The required driver version is, as far as my card, the very latest driver. I would double-check that if you're still having problems.
