Where can I find a trackpoint rubber piece?

#1 Post by scrible88 » Fri Dec 02, 2005 4:17 pm

I am looking for a new or almost brand new condition trackpoint red rubber piece. Where can I find one for little $? I looked on ebay with no luck. Does anyone here have a great condition spare? I'll pay shipping.

Were you wearing blinders? Is $0.99 too much?

Try their search feature; include item description. Click this link (if you can find it ): LINK

Lenovo has a set of replacements, $x.xx or so. Search for "trackpoint cap collection." I think the part # is 73P2698.

SELF-EDIT: Sorry, the forum discourages quotation of prices. The price was a EPP/CPP channel, with a new Thinkpad. Two each of three kinds of Trackpoint tips. But any more than $12 would be unreasonable.

When IBM was still IBM, they quit selling them and farmed them out to some 3rd party who wanted about $15 each with shipping, if memory serves. Good to hear Lenovo/IBM is selling them. Seems like some of the folks on eBay have them for a decent price.

@scrible88,

We've all had those days!

Tigerdirect.com & globalcomputer sell "Trackaccessory" trackpoint covers, all three types, two of each in a set, a set of six is about $10. I have a set coming. ...will let all know about quality when they arrive next week

...Got the trackpoint caps a few days ago. They are IBM as Tiger indicated and of course, they work well.

Note: The seemingly .99 caps on eBay cost more than .99... I always check shipping when an eBay seller price seemss too low. Many of the sellers are charging at least nearly $4 and some are charging over $6 to ship. Tiger just threw my cap set in with the memory modules I ordered, no extra ship or handle.

You can easily put a package of six caps in a folded sheet of paper in an envelope and mail it First Class for 32cents. In addition, the caps seem to be generic, meaning they most likely will not work as well as an IBM set which includes two of each of the three significantly different types.

Lucky you, they're on sale.

  • Six caps per package; two each of Classic Dome, Soft Dome and Soft Rim
  • All ThinkPad notebooks and TrackPoint-enabled keyboards can now use the three styles of TrackPoint caps.

Actually, the forum rules forbid discussion of prices, availability, etc from programs such as EPP or edu pricing since those are directed towards a narrow population and not available to most forum members. You can quote prices from a retail channel all day long.

wireless4laptop (on ebay and I believe same username here) used to have the red caps. I've purchased a number of IBM items from him, great prices and service.

No idea - you'll have to ask them.

In Taiwan's IBM/Lenovo, you can order two free trackpoint caps every season, while your thinkpad under warranty.

I just wonder if I can do the same thing in US.

If you don't want to order the cap collection from IBM/Lenovo (2 each of the three trackpoint tips), the fellow at www.clickykeyboard.com sells the classic Trackpoint tip.
