Thinkpad 1400 2621-486 DVD viewing functionality question.

This notebook is a Thinkpad 1400, 2621-486.
It is running Windows XP Pro.
I am unable to watch comercial DVD movies. Why? I don't know, do you?

The machine has a DVD ROM which recognizes and plays DVD data discs.
I have installed many codecs but it hasn't changed a thing.
I have attempted to view the comercial DVD movies with Windows Media Player 10 but it doesn't work. I also tried using the DivX player that came with the DivX codec package, but that also didn't work.

The IBM driver update page doesn't appear to offer anything helpful for this model machine running XP.

I would appreciate any helpful suggestions you could make about this issue. Could it be a hardware or software issue?

Try this program, K-lite:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_L ... c_Pack.htm

It has all sorts of codecs attached, and includes an older version of Windows Media Player. I have used this in the past when I needed a free DVD Player, because I couldn't get a newer version of WMP to play DVDs.

One more thing, before you download K-lite. Do you have the latest version of Direct X?

I'll check that the lastest version of Direct X on the machine and try out K-lite.
As it's my SO's notebook it'll probably take me a day or two to find out and get back with results.

Not mentioned in the first post was that I was able to view a TV episode I'd downloaded and burnt onto DVD disc but that it caused a margin at the top and an square inch in the middle of the screen to become pixelated.

Fingers crossed for the K-lite fix.
