muting thinkpad speaker when using mini-dock

hi i just got a mini dock for my t42
i plugged my speakers into the minidock . however, when i play music, not only does it play through the speakers but it plays through the thinkpad's speaker as well, is there a way to mute the thinkpad's speakers when connected to the dock?
